I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with our 44^th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, while he was out promoting his health care reform initiative. I requested 30 minutes given the scope and detail of my inquiry; they said I could have 20. Twenty minutes, 1200 seconds, not a lot of time to question the President about one of the most important events in our nation’s history. The following is a transcript of our remarkable discussion.

Charlie Sheen – Good afternoon Mr. President, thank you so much for taking time out of your demanding schedule.

President Barack Obama – My pleasure, the content of your request seemed like something I should carve out a few minutes for.

CS – I should point out that I voted for you, as your promises of hope and change, transparency and accountability, as well as putting government back into the hands of the American people, struck an emotional chord in me that I hadn’t felt in quite some time, perhaps ever.

PBO – And I appreciate that Charlie. Big fan of the show, by the way.

CS – Sir, I can’t imagine when you might find the time to actually watch my show given the measure of what you inherited.

PBO – I have it Tivo’d on Air Force One. Nice break from the traveling press corps. (He glances at his watch) not to be abrupt or to rush you, but you have 19 minutes left.

KARACHI: An accountability court disposed of on Friday two corruption references against the wife of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and five other people after the National Accountability Bureau which had filed them in 2000 informed the court that the matter had been settled and charges withdrawn.

Fouzia Yousuf Gilani, Syeda Samina Abrar, Anwar Nasreen, Ziaur Rehman, Khalid Hussain and Nasreen Munawar Chaudhry were accused of obtaining two loans from the Agricultural Development Bank for their companies in the late 1980s and not returning the money.

NAB’s prosecutor general filed an application in the court stating that the matter had been settled and the accused had entered into an agreement with the bank.

He said the prosecution had decided to withdraw the charges.

According to the prosecution, the accused who were directors of the Pakistan Green Fertiliser had obtained a loan of Rs71.163 million from the ADBP in November 1987 and not returned the amount after which the National Accountability Bureau had filed a reference against them.

The second reference pertained to a loan of Rs100 million taken from the bank in July 1989 for the Multan Edible Oil Extraction company. The court had dismissed applications for acquittal in July.

The managing director of the firms, Munawar Hussain Sindhu, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on March 10, 2001, while Ms Gilani and others were awarded three-year terms in absentia for failing to appear before the court.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi  said the government would disclose evidence regarding India’s involvement in Balochistan diplomatically at the right time.

To a question about induction of over 1,000 Marines by the US embassy into Islamabad, the minister said: “The US embassy is reinforcing its personnel for strengthening its security.” He said it should be taken as a message from the US that it wanted long-term relationship with Pakistan.

Will someone please tell me how we decide what time is right. Should the Pakistani government actually be covering up evidence that proves India’s or any other countries involvement in the current unrest.

Personally, i’m getting kind of sick of this game. If we have something, come out and say it, else just keep it shut. If you ask me it was the right time when the Indian govt accused us of sporting terrorism, it was the right time when they fell short of proving their point. If not then, its the right time now, if we are going to pin the blame on someone, lets come out and do it already. Heck, it was the right time yesterday. Do it already.

Now coming to the second para, who are these leaders trying to kid, since when is sending soldiers a sing of wanting long term relationship. If it is, where is the Iraqi govt (Bath Party) gone, did they not get the memo, what about the (Taliban) Afgani govt, or were they just too stupid to not understand what thousands of soldiers mean.

I don’t see any Palestinians jumping with joy, why wont our leadership address their nation and give them the comforting msg, how stupid these Palestinians can be, thinking those soldiers are there to kill them. All they are really doing is showing how the Israelis want longterm relationship with the Muslims of Gaza and Palestine

It seems that the biggest democracy has its own way of treating prisoners, especially from the neighboring country. I am referring to Jamil Khan, whose coffin was handed over to Pakistani authorities by the Indians. As always they all die there of natural causes, as our neighbor claim. The unfortunate soul, hailing from Baluchistan was on a trip to Sindh when he somehow crossed the forbidden line, 18 years back. With no real charge sheet he was sentenced to 5 year in prison, but after 18 years instead of shame on still holding him illegally, his tortured body was sent back to his relatives.

This is not the first time that an episode like this has taken place, rather it has become a custom that any captured Pakistani will seldom make it back in full shape. Numerous reports are there where the bodies have been found with drilling and burn marks all over them.

May be the champions of human right, secularism and democracy can shed some light on this treatment, which is a clear demonstration of extremism in their ranks. Our hearts go out with the family, but one feels that at least this ended his ordeal by the hands of Indians.

May be Mr. Ansar Burni gets some thing out of his news. Until now he has earned laughter for campaigning to release proved spies, why not earn some respect by highlighting the sad and brutal stories of people like Jamil Khan?

As the Commander of the Armies of the Republic, we invite you to take a trip to 2024 in our time machine. Imagine, if after 15 years , an ex-officer of some intelligence agency and the ex-Corps Commander Peshawar appeared on the TV screen claiming whatever was done in Swat in 2009 was nothing but a drama and there was no entity called the “Taliban” in Swat, how will the families of Shuhada/martyrs of Pakistan Army (Jawans and junior NCOs) feel.? What will be the impact of such a revelation on the morale of soldiers and officers? What will they think of their officers and generals when they realize that their blood was used as a bargaining chip by the GHQ?

And what about the nation’s confidence in their Army as the guarantor of our territorial integrity after another Imtiaz Billa spills the beans on Operation Rah-e-Rast? What if the videos of terrorists killed and their hideouts, training camps of suicide bombers, were revealed in 2024 as a brilliant psy-ops action?

This is exactly what some ex-army officers are doing now by appearing on our TV screens and claiming whatever was presented in official ISPR briefings in 1994 was a concocted drama, along with all the footage, pictures and evidence presented to the media. Read more…

In a very shocking development a young 32 year old person, father of four kids looses his life during the filming of a reality show sponsored by Unilever and being produced by their advertising agency Mindshare. Saad Khan was a game show contestant and the host/model Amina Sheikh, who also is the model of Clear Shampoo, gave an underwater challenge to Saad and during the execution of the stunt he apparently lost control, struggled and pleading for help could not recover, the inadequate safety personal and the equipment could not react in time and eventually he drowned Saad Khan, 32 year old young man from Karachi and a father of four kids is sadly the victim, his body was returned to Karachi for burial two days back and the infuriated family has been running from pillar to post but it seems for some awkward reason it fails to catch the media attention and apparently no media house is ready to ‘run the story‘. It is a known fact that the media in Pakistan is usually head over heals on every other lame ass political slander, but surprisingly in Saad’s case this case of gross neglect is not worthy of even a short news item. Might this have anything to do with the influence of Unilever and Mindshare who are giant spenders armed with enormous advertisement budgets.

In an exclusive interview with Foreign Policy Journal, retired Lt. Gen. Hamid Gul responds to charges that he supports terrorism, discusses 9/11 and ulterior motives for the war on Afghanistan, claims that the U.S., Israel, and India are behind efforts to destabilize Pakistan, and charges the U.S. and its allies with responsibility for the lucrative Afghan drug trade.

Retired Lieutenant General Hamid Gul was the Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from 1987 to 1989, during which time he worked closely with the CIA to provide support for the mujahedeen fighting the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Though once deemed a close ally of the United States, in more recent years his name has been the subject of considerable controversy. He has been outspoken with the claim that the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 were an “inside job”. He has been called “the most dangerous man in Pakistan”, and the U.S. government has accused him of supporting the Taliban, even recommending him to the United Nations Security Council for inclusion on the list of international terrorists.

In an exclusive interview with Foreign Policy Journal, I asked the former ISI chief what his response was to these allegations. He replied, “Well, it’s laughable I would say, because I’ve worked with the CIA and I know they were never so bad as they are now.” He said this was “a pity for the American people” since the CIA is supposed to act “as the eyes and ears” of the country. As for the charge of him supporting the Taliban, “it is utterly baseless. I have no contact with the Taliban, nor with Osama bin Laden and his colleagues.” He added, “I have no means, I have no way that I could support them, that I could help them.”
